The short version: we collect what the app needs to work, we do not sell your data, we do not run advertising, and you can export or delete everything at any time. Because this is a nutrition app, some of what you enter is health information — we treat it accordingly.
1. Who we are
Balanced Manna, operated by Balanced Manna, is the controller of the personal data described here. Contact: support@balancedmanna.com
2. What we collect
- Account details — name, email address, optional username, and a securely hashed password. We never store your password itself.
- Body and profile data — sex, date of birth, height, weight history, activity level and goals. Used to calculate your calorie and nutrient targets.
- Health information you choose to give — health conditions (such as diabetes or high blood pressure), food allergies, dietary preferences and free-text health notes. All of this is optional. It exists only to tailor limits and suggestions to you.
- Activity you log — foods and drinks, water, workouts, steps, meal plans, pantry contents, cravings and excluded foods.
- Payment data — if you subscribe, Stripe collects and processes your card details. We receive only a customer/subscription reference, your plan status and renewal date. Your card number never reaches our servers.
- Technical data — a session cookie to keep you logged in, a cookie recording your timezone so "today" matches your local day, and standard server logs (IP address, browser, pages requested) kept for security and troubleshooting.
- Site usage — which pages are viewed, the site that linked you here, your device type, and an approximate location (continent, and country or region) worked out from your browser's timezone setting. We keep this to understand which parts of the site are useful. It is not tied to your account and no IP address is stored with it — repeat visits within a day are counted using a one-way code that cannot be traced back to you or linked across days.
These usage figures are measured by us, on our own server. We do not use advertising or third-party analytics trackers, nothing is sent to an analytics company, and there are no third-party ad cookies.
3. Why we use it, and our legal basis
- To run the service — calculate targets, store your logs, generate plans (performance of our contract with you).
- Health conditions and allergies — to adjust nutrient limits and remove unsuitable foods from suggestions. Where the GDPR applies this is special-category data, processed only on your explicit consent, given when you enter it. You may remove it at any time in Settings → Health & diet.
- Billing — to take payment and manage your subscription (contract, and legal obligations such as tax records).
- Security and abuse prevention (legitimate interests).
- Service emails — for example a receipt or an important change to these terms (contract / legitimate interests). We do not send marketing email without your consent.
4. Who we share it with
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We share only with the providers needed to operate:
- Stripe — payment processing and subscription management. See Stripe's privacy policy.
- Our web host — stores the database and application files on our behalf.
We may also disclose data if legally required, or to protect our rights or someone's safety. If the business is ever sold or transferred, your data may transfer with it; we would notify you first.
Food and product reference data comes from public sources including Open Food Facts (ODbL). Nothing you log is ever sent back to them.
5. How long we keep it
Your account data is kept while your account is open. Delete your account and we remove your personal data and logs within 30 days, except records we must retain for legal or accounting reasons (such as payment records, typically 7 years). Server logs are kept for a short period for security purposes.
6. Your rights
Wherever you live, you can:
- See your data — it is all visible in the app.
- Export it — Reports → CSV export gives you your logs in a portable format.
- Correct it — edit or delete any entry, or change your profile, at any time.
- Delete it — email us to close your account and erase your data.
- Withdraw consent — clear your health conditions, allergies and notes in Settings → Health & diet without losing the rest of your account.
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or the CCPA) you may also have rights to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to complain to your data protection authority. We do not sell personal information as defined by the CCPA, and we do not discriminate against anyone for exercising a privacy right. To exercise any right, email support@balancedmanna.com.
7. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your account and the information you store with us, and payment details are handled entirely by our payment provider. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach ever affected your data we would tell you promptly.
8. Children
The service is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data. Calorie targets are not appropriate for children. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.
9. International users
Our servers are in the United States. If you use the service from elsewhere, your data is transferred to and stored in the US, which may have different data protection laws than your country.
10. Cookies
We use only what the app needs: a session cookie to keep you signed in, and a small cookie storing your timezone so daily totals line up with your local day. No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies are used.
11. Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be notified by email or in the app. The "last updated" date above always reflects the current version.
